Using Easy Relays to split a relay or provide one from trigger voltage

Most fire panels have a single fire and fault relay output on the panel itself.

Addressable systems can have I/O units connected to the loop and some 2-wire systems can also have I/O units connected to the zones, these I/O units can provide additional relay outputs.

Conventional systems and some 2-wire systems are not able to have I/O units connected to the system meaning relays onboard the panel may be available.

Although a single fire relay may often be sufficient, there will always be systems that require more than one output.

If the onboard output is already being used and a second is needed, then you could incorporate an Easy Relay.

All Easy Relays have two sets of contacts, each capable of switching 230V AC at 8 amps.

What Easy Relay models are available?

There are three types of easy relays, and the only way they differ is by the input trigger.

12vdc input relays

  • 500-010 – PCB only designed to be mounted in an existing enclose.
  • 500-011R (red) or 500-011W (white) – supplied on either a red or white 1gang plate.

24vdc input relays

  • 500-020 – PCB only designed to be mounted in an existing enclose.
  • 500-021R (red) or 500-021W (white) – supplied on either a red or white 1gang plate.

240vac input relays

  • 500-050 – PCB only designed to be mounted in an existing enclose.
  • 500-051R (red) or 500-051W (white) – supplied on either a red or white 1gang plate.

What are the applications for Easy Relays?

  • 12vdc Easy Relays can be used on door access, intruder alarms or any other equipment operating on 12vdc.
  • 24dc easy relays are mainly used on fire alarm systems but can be used on any equipment operating on 24vdc.
  • 230vac Easy Relays can be used for lighting, heating systems or any equipment operating on 230vac.

Typical Easy Relay wiring diagram

The below diagram shows how an Easy Relay is being connected to a fire relay on the fire panel to. A contact on the easy relay is being used to drop voltage to a door closure in the event of a fire activation. The other contact is being used to signal an input on a monitored I/O unit.
