The water detector alarm sounds when water comes into contact with the sensor which is located on the bottom of the alarm. The alarm can be placed directly on the floor with the sensor compartment closed, or the sensor compartment can be opened and the sensor wires extended up to 6 feet to reach a sump pit or other remote location.
