Orbis Intrinsically Safe (IS) range of conventional detectors has been developed to meet the requirements of hazardous environments, including petroleum and chemical engineering plants, and factories that process and store gases, solvents, paints and other volatile substances. Electrical equipment used in these high-risk environments must be designed so as not to ignite an explosive mixture in normal operation as well as in fault conditions. A common way to achieve this is through intrinsic safety. Orbis IS fire detectors are, therefore, intrinsically safe; they are incapable of causing ignition as they operate at very low power using small amounts of stored energy.
